Note added 7/9: The main conference room itself has reached capacity and registration as a conference delegate attendance is no longer possible. Seats have been allocated on a first come, first served basis. However the talks will also be live streamed into the exhibition area where additional seats will be available for those unable to join the main room or wishing to watch the presentations in a slightly more informal environment. Please register yourself as an Exhibition Visitor and you can still participate.

We invite you to attend the Hub's inaugural industry day, to be held on Tuesday 13th September at the University of Southampton's Highfield Campus.

As a delegate, you will enjoy a packed technical programme and exhibition with cleanroom tours and opportunities for one-to-one meetings with key Hub researchers, as well as being the first to find out about our new Innovation Fund launching on the day.

Programme highlights:

Keynote speaker

We are delighted to announce Dr Andrew Rickman OBE, CEO and Chairman of Rockley Photonics, as our keynote speaker who will be presenting on the translation of academic research into industry.

Technical programme

The event will showcase the latest advances in mid-IR and III-V sources, next-generation materials and metamaterials, with an emphasis on immediate industrial relevance and future developments. We will also address the impact of the EU referendum and the increasing role of digitisation in industry on UK photonics.

Innovation Fund launch

We will launch a new innovation fund open to RCUK-eligible researchers to support research projects relevant to future photonics manufacturing.


Delegates will have the chance to take part in 'mini meetings' with key Hub researchers to facilitate collaborative projects with direct industry input.These specific one-to-ones can be pre-booked during event registration (book early as places are limited).

Tours and more

The packed programme also includes tours of our state-of-the-art cleanrooms and laboratories, a poster session, careers panel and drinks reception.

AILU Micro-Nano Workshop

Delegates interested in the field of micro-nano processing may be interested to hear that the Association of Industrial Laser Users (AILU) will be holding a themed workshop in Southampton the day after the Hub Industry Day (on Wednesday 14 September, venue: Botleigh Grange Hotel).

Further details can be found on the AILU website should you wish to consider combining both events in a single trip.
